Study shows: Moderate nitrous oxide emissions from perennial grass for future bio-refineries despite high N input

2019.11.12Perennial crops are being considered as a new source of biomass for bio-refineries and sustainable energy. A new study from Department of Agroecology has determined the emission of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide.

Last year, Denmark won the BISC-E's European final, this year Belgium won the prize

2019.10.30"Contribute to the sustainability of society by designing a bio-based product or process" was the challenge of the European competition BISC-E. The competition, which is only for students, had participants from five European countries. One of them was Niels Mark Jacobsen from Denmark. He and his student colleague Asbjørn Madsen made it all the way to the final, but was beaten by the team from Belgium on the finishing line.

Danish students participate in an international competition

2019.09.2723-24 October, the European student competition BISC-E holds its first European final in Berlin. BISC-E, which is a competition in the field of bioeconomy, encourages students to take an interest in recycling of biological resources and development of bio-based products and processes. The Center for Circular Bioeconomy, which is part of Aarhus University, is represented by a team of students this year.

Grass protein in foods – just around the corner, or?

2019.05.15Recent years have witnessed a major focus on replacing animal protein in foods by plant-based alternatives, and proteins is a key focus area for iFOOD in the years to come. Soya protein in particular is popular in various products. However, Danish grassland areas might be a useful protein source for human food. Researchers from Aarhus University work hard to make this a suitable alternative.

How healthy and nutritious are insects?

2019.04.23Currently, alternative protein sources are in focus and insects in particular. The nutrient contents of insects have been mapped. However, we still need to investigate several factors when considering insects as human nutrition, including how the nutrients from insects are absorbed, and how they affect our satiety. These are some of the questions that Sofie Kaas Ovesen will try to answer during her Ph.D. study at Department of Food Science, Aarhus University.

Putting grass protein to the test

2019.02.28A group of researchers is currently examining whether it will be possible to replace traditional protein sources with protein from clover grass in organic pig feed. They are rather optimistic.

Two full professors in biorefinery

2019.02.04The Biological and Chemical Engineering Section (BCE) at Department of Engineering (www.eng.au.dk) and the Centre for Circular Bioeconomy (CBIO) at Aarhus University invites applications for two full professors in biorefinery. One full professor in “green biorefinery technology”, and one full professor in “general biorefinery”.
