The transition to circular bioeconomy holds huge industrial potentials as well as significant benefits for the environment, the climate and a sustainable society.

How can companies and agriculture enter into a circular bioeconomy, and how do we ensure that its further development will be of value to both industry and society? These questions are the focal points of the conference Circular Bioeconomy Days 2019, to be held from 25 to 27 June at Aarhus University in Foulum.

Conference organizers are Aarhus University’s Centre for Circular Bioeconomy (CBIO), SEGES, Agro Business Park, Central Denmark Region, Viborg Municipality, INBIOM and the EU project Green VALLeys. 

The event will gather the most important Danish and international actors, who will discuss circular bioeconomy as a tool to implement the UN Sustainability Development Goals, but also – more precisely – to develop the sustainable protein of the future. And you are invited!

All of Europe gathers at Aarhus University

As a conference participant, you will acquire new knowledge and be introduced to new examples of how bioeconomy works in practice. You will have the opportunity to participate in discussions with leading Danish and European decision-makers, and meet leading researchers and entrepreneurs, who work to develop the bioeconomy. Last, but not least, the participants will have the opportunity to visit Aarhus University’s unique research facilities as well as a number of trendsetting companies in the Central Denmark Region, the working efforts of which are based partly on protein production, partly on circular bioeconomy where resource utilization is continuously improved.

One of the conference hosts is Centre Director Uffe Jørgensen, Centre for Circular Bioeconomy at Aarhus University, and he explains:

- With our event, “Circular Bioeconomy Days”, we want to focus on – and open up the discussion of – how to develop a sustainable circular bioeconomy. Specifically, we want to analyze how to unfold the potential for local protein production in Europe. I hope that we will be able to reach a deeper level than usual when we unfold European knowhow, and that we may have an open-minded discussion about which new goals to reach. At the same time, we must keep in mind that the circular bioeconomy is already at work and holds huge potentials for agriculture and the food industry as well as for other Danish industrial sectors. Selected companies will tell their stories, and interesting study visits will be arranged.

On the first day of the conference we will focus on the development of circular bioeconomy towards a more sustainable direction. On the second day, we will unfold one of the circular bioeconomy’s most essential questions: How do we produce an increased amount of local protein for feed and food without compromising  the environment – or will it be possible to create win-win solutions where protein production helps improve the environment? On the final day, the utilization of new innovative protein sources will be on the agenda.
