Both of the two Danish contributions were based on a residual product from juice production. One team extracted D-limonene oil, pectin and polyphenols of orange peel. The second team worked up carrot pulp for a dietary supplement with a high content of fibers and antioxidants.
Each team had 10 minutes to present their project, followed by 10 min’s questioning from a jury. It was a very competent and sharp jury, who pursued both details and questioned the core of the problem areas. Despite the fact that it had felt a bit like “being shaken”, the students were nevertheless happy with the questions asked - they had experienced it as a genuine interest from one professional to another.
Late afternoon, the jury voted. Before the opening of the winners, praise was awarded to the Danish teams to travel all the way to Holland and give their Dutch fellow students a lesson in presentation techniques.
Finally, the thrill was redeemed and the winner’s announced.
The event were held at TKI Agri & Food in Wageningen. A total of six teams were registered
Professor Sven G. Sommer supervised the two teams. Sven G. Sommer has just been employed at Aarhus University.
